| The Archifab team played a key role in a development of luxurious apartments built on the site of the former St James Skin Hospital in Birmingham. The high specification dwellings have spacious open plan interiors, offering the ultimate in modern-day style and convenience. |
 |
Innovative solutions by the Archifab team brought about modifications to the original project specification.
Traditional lead, steel and stone in the original specification were replaced with an innovative use of composite materials technology. Metal guttering was replaced by GRP, which was both more cost effective and maintenance-free. Also, proposed concrete and lead fascias were redesigned and engineered using fabricated GRP. This made a considerable saving in weight to the building and a cost saving to the client.
Torclad's Archifab team were called in by the main contractor because they offered a powerful combination of cost benefit and aesthetics. The Archifab team's solutions were not only cheaper, but improved the appearance and enhanced the perception of quality in the project as a whole.
The side roofs, fascias and barrels were completed in a striking zinc standing seam system. The main roof, again installed by Torclad's roofing/cladding division, comprised low pitch composite panels. |
