Torclad is committed to working in supply chain partnerships that are meaningful, and where partners work to add value from their perspective of technical and/or logistical expertise.

We provide the following summary information to prospective supply chain partners, and indeed, to any potential stakeholder in Torclad.

Our contribution to design integration
Torclad is regularly involved in integrated design activities.

Without exception, projects involving the installation of our sheeting and cladding solutions, and our GRP/composite engineering solutions, are delivered after varying degrees of design development.

As an independent installer of building envelope products (with their varying cost related performance and aesthetic attributes), Torclad is in a relatively unique position to challenge and improve the outcome of a project.

Design optimisation utilising alternative materials, and the reduction of over-engineering are benefits regularly generated for clients.

Our best for purpose approach is underpinned by a collective several hundred man-years of roofing, cladding and composite engineering knowledge. We work to ensure that the needs of the client, whether he be end-user, or from our position of sub-contractor to a main contractor, are challenged, thought through and delivered.

Design management
Torclad's design management procedures encompass
  • Proper regard to Health & Safety requirements
  • Compliance with appropriate Building Regulations and HSWA legislation
  • Ensuring adequate design detail and information
  • Risk avoidance in construction and future maintenance
  • Version control of designs
Torclad operates its own computer based administration system to support the management of the information relating to our design contribution.

Each contract has a main folder in which sub-folders contain information on Health & Safety (and the Health & Safety file), O & M manual requirements, Method Statements, construction detail and CAD drawings, programme details and issues, commercial information/quotations and agreements etc..

Torclad's CAD and IT Infrastructure
Torclad's offices and factory premises at Blaby are CAT 5 wired.

We operate AutoCAD 2005 & 2004 software. We also use Solidworks for 3D modelling of certain items for manufacture.

Torclad's field staff have VPN connection where required.

Innovation
Torclad works with its customers on a 'best for purpose' basis and clients regularly require us to deliver innovative solutions.

Because Torclad is both an installer and manufacturer, this often means that Torclad can innovate a best for purpose solution combining its roofing and cladding products and expertise, with its composite engineering, manufacturing and installation skills.

Innovation for clients requires continual development of knowledge and processes within Torclad; as is the need to be informed of latest developments in building envelope materials technology, mouldable composites, construction techniques and associated business support processes, and in IT.

Customer Care
As a specialist contractor, Torclad's customers range from end-users, building owners, clients, architects, surveyors to various main contractors.

In all customer relationships, Torclad uses its best endeavours to create an atmosphere of meaningful collaboration, whether this is the development of a proposed scheme with an architect, the management of building occupants during construction activity, or negotiations with a main contractor.

The quality of the above approach is reflected in the significant percentage of our customers (direct and indirect) who wish to do repeat business with us.

Our relationship with our customers is underpinned by our commitment to:
  • Ensure that we have as much information as possible on the proposed project
  • Establish clearly defined objectives
  • Propose best for purpose solutions, including the consideration of issues of sustainability and whole life costs
  • Provide certainty of delivery
  • Minimise disruption
  • Work towards a zero defect culture, quickly resolving defects when identified
  • Customers are created from their first point of contact with Torclad. If an agreement, whether commercial, design oriented or operational cannot be concluded with the customer, we clearly understand that, how the customer is dealt with, will determine whether Torclad is given other business opportunity by the customer.

    Quality systems
Torclad is committed to continually improving the quality of delivery of its external and internal services, and the processes and systems upon which these are based.

Quality control systems underpin the following activities:
    Surveying
    Design
    Estimation
    Sales Order Processing
    Purchasing
    Project Planning and Implementation
Manufacturing (where Torclad actually produces an element of the construction)
    Installation
    Recruitment/induction
    Administration and Accounts

    Health & Safety
All Torclad staff are trained in Health & Safety requirements.

Our Health & Safety policies and procedures are available to all in printed and electronic forms, and we believe the policies and procedures, which are encompassed in the manual, are extensive.

Regarding communication to site operatives and sub-contracted staff, in most circumstances, tool box talks suffice. Special training is undertaken for particular risks/equipment usage.

Revisions to the Health & Safety documentation are issued in the O&M manual.

    Health and Safety Policy
